PromoIQ and Google Shopping
Google already helps Chrome users shop, and PromoIQ's own price checks start from Google Shopping results. PromoIQ is meant to work alongside Google, not replace it.
Facts checked on October 8, 2026, with sources linked.
What Google gives you in Chrome
- Price insights in the address bar: price history and the typical price range for up to 90 days, plus price tracking with price-drop alerts. You need to be signed in to Chrome with history sync and "Make searches and browsing better" turned on. Available in Australia, Canada, India, Japan and the US, and not on every product page (Chrome Help).
- A discount badge: when an eligible discount exists, Chrome can show a code to copy. Codes come from merchants, and codes without an end date are treated as valid for 24 hours. Chrome does not apply them or test them at your checkout (Chrome Help, TechCrunch, Nov 7, 2023).
- Gemini in Chrome: can describe and compare products and show product cards from Google's Shopping Graph. It needs a personal account, age 18 or older, and Gemini activity saving turned on (Gemini Help).
- Auto browse: an agent in Chrome that can find items, apply discount codes and check stock. It never presses buy. It is for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, started on US desktops in January 2026, and works in its own tab (9to5Google, Jan 28, 2026).
Where Google is stronger
- Scale. Google's Shopping Graph holds more than 50 billion product listings, about 2 billion of them refreshed every hour (Digital Commerce 360, Nov 13, 2025). PromoIQ relies on it.
- Price history and alerts. Chrome has them built in. PromoIQ does not offer them and does not plan to copy them.
- Nothing to install. Google's tools come with Chrome.
- Checkout partnerships. Google can complete purchases with some merchants. PromoIQ never places orders.
Where PromoIQ helps
- It tries codes in the tab you are using. Chrome's badge is copy-only. PromoIQ applies codes one at a time on the store's checkout and shows whether your total went down, without a paid plan.
- It works signed out. PromoIQ needs no Google account, history sync or activity setting, and does nothing until you click it.
- Exact matches only, sorted by price. PromoIQ takes Google Shopping results, keeps only the exact same product, removes links to search pages and links straight to each store's product page. Google Shopping results can include sponsored listings, and Google has been adding shopping ads to AI Mode answers (Keywords Everywhere tracker). PromoIQ has no paid placements and no affiliate links.
- Proof on every code. Codes from any source are labeled by whether anyone has seen them lower a total.
Using them together
Use Chrome's price history to judge whether now is a good time to buy. On the store page, use PromoIQ to try codes and to check whether the exact same item is cheaper somewhere else.
