Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2, 2026
PromoIQ ("we", "our", or "the extension") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle data when you use our browser extension on supported shopping sites.
Data We Collect
PromoIQ collects only the minimum data necessary to provide its core functionality:
- Current-page shopping information: When you activate the extension on a supported retailer page, we read the current page to identify product names, prices, cart totals, and promo code fields.
- Local preferences: Your settings and savings statistics are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
- Savings data: The savings dashboard tracks codes applied and discounts found. Summary savings stats are stored on your device; anonymous code-result signals may be sent to our backend only to improve code confidence.
- Promo code validation: Anonymous code success/failure signals may be sent to our backend to improve code confidence scores for all users. We do not include your name, email, address, payment details, or a cross-site browsing profile.
- Price comparison requests: Product names, retailer domains, and page URLs may be sent to our backend only to return comparable product offers and affiliate-supported links for the active shopping session.
We do NOT collect:
- Browsing history
- Personal information (name, email, address)
- Payment information
- Passwords or authentication information
- Data from non-retailer websites
How We Use Data
Product information is used solely to:
- Find and validate promo codes for your current shopping session
- Compare prices across supported retailers
- Label affiliate-supported retailer links clearly before you click
Most shopping data is processed in real time. Anonymous code-result signals may be retained in aggregate so future users can see whether a code is likely to work.
Extension Permissions Explained
- activeTab: Allows the extension to read the current page only when you click the extension icon.
- storage: Saves your preferences and savings statistics locally in your browser.
- contextMenus: Adds a right-click option to quickly search for deals on selected text.
- alarms: Schedules local cleanup and refresh tasks for cached shopping data.
- notifications: Shows user-facing alerts such as a code result or price-watch update.
- scripting: Runs PromoIQ code on supported retailer pages so the extension can detect products, promo fields, and cart totals.
- tabs: Opens or focuses shopping-result tabs when you choose to view an offer.
- sidePanel: Displays PromoIQ's shopping assistant panel in Chrome.
- Host permissions (supported retailers and PromoIQ services): Required to detect products, apply promo codes, and compare prices across 33+ major retailer sites listed at promoiq.co/supported-stores. Service permissions for Firebase/Google endpoints support authentication and lookup responses.
Third-Party Services
We use Firebase and Google Cloud endpoints, including PromoIQ Cloud Functions, to process promo code lookups, anonymous validation signals, and price comparison requests. Firebase's privacy policy applies to this data processing.
Affiliate Disclosure
PromoIQ may earn commissions from affiliate links when you make a purchase. This does not affect the price you pay. Affiliate relationships are disclosed transparently.
Data Security
All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption. We do not store a personal shopping profile on external servers; cloud processing is limited to active lookup responses and anonymous code-confidence signals.
Your Rights
You can uninstall the extension at any time to stop all data processing. Local data can be cleared through Chrome's extension settings.
Changes to This Policy
We will update this page if our practices change. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
